THE SECRETS OF INDEPENDENT FILM MAKING

In 2009, Qaushiq Mukherjee : Q directed India’s first internationally co-produced documentary ‘Love in India’ that went on to win the National Award. His first feature film, ‘Gandu’ (Asshole), rose to be an indie cult phenomenon and broke new ground in filmmaking technique while creating a massive uproar around the world for its narrative and stylistic anarchy. Gandu premiered at Berlinale and has been to more than 60 film festivals worldwide, winning top honors at SAIFF and Seattle. It was banned from releasing in India but saw millions of illegal downloads.

Q’s ‘Brahman Naman’, a boisterous teen sex comedy set in Bangalore, India of the 80s saw a world premiere at Sundance. Moreover, Netflix bagged worldwide SVOD (subscription video on demand) rights to the film at Sundance, making Brahman Naman the first Indian film on Netflix.

Known for eclectic, politically charged cinema, art and music, Q and his company Oddjoint is currently in the process of writing and producing of several odd and exciting projects.
